Behind the Scenes with ArtChick at Church street Studios

Behind the Scenes with ArtChick at Church street Studios

It was really exciting working on our latest video project for DAK Financial Advisors with Bob Warkulwiz of Warkulwiz Design. Bob has been in the Advertising Design business for over 35 years and teaches at Drexel and Temple Universities. His way of thinking on the set is incisive and creative…and he has a good sense of humor.

Our two camera video shoot with teleprompter, special sound track, makeup artist, and assistant, required careful focus on details and organization. in order for things to flow smoothly with more than 2 or 3 people on a set, the many pieces of the production puzzle must be stitched together as seamlessly as possible in advance. That's one of the ways that having our own studio pays off. At Church Street Studios in Old City Philadelphia, we have the equipment in place. We can more efficiently actualize a production because we have the tools it takes to make it happen.

Not having to rent a space, transport equipment, assemble and break down every time we shoot, frees us up to pay attention to the things that really matter, like the lighting, diction, expression, sound quality, color balance, and the comfort of the speaker. In the area of commercial videography and video production, the efficiently that comes with owning our own studio, allows the Church Street Studios team to work more effectively on projects that require a studio environment. We turn on the lights, lower the green screen, gather the folks on the set, and get the job done in the most cost effective way.

Plain truth on Headshots

Plain truth on Headshots

Ok folks just got off the phone with a casting director and here is the skinny on actors headshots! She told me out of the 16 people who submitted, only two had headshots that she said were worthy of submitting to anyone. The rest, she said should go in the garbage.

She said, "your headshots are your calling card and must be the very perfect best thing you ever have as a tool". I hate to keep whipping a dead horse but the point is, make SURE your headshots are epic. Because casting directors do not even bother to look past the headshot when looking at submissions... UNLESS the headshot "jumps out at them", AND it is exactly what they are looking for in a certain role.

So make absolutely sure that your headshot is the very best quality , updated and representation of who you are at this moment. And have multiple headshots for each look that you can portray at a given time. That way, you can't go wrong!

What to Wear for a Photography Session

What to Wear for a Photography Session

Sep 5 2014

ArtChick

General Wardrobe Advice – Keep it simple!

You’ll want to wear a sharp outfit that makes you look and feel your best. Choose an outfit you would wear to an interview, or a sales pitch meeting, or if you were being interviewed on television. Darker jackets are traditional for business headshots. For shirts, wear solids or shirts with non-distracting subtle patterns. For women, a bright colored shirt/blouse with a dark jacket is a very nice look. Don’t wear all-white unless it’s underneath another article of clothing. (Exception: for women, white jacket + darker shirt underneath) Avoid very light pastel colors unless they’re combined with dark clothing. Strong stripes and patterns make a fashion statement and will be noticed – only wear these if it’s your personal style. Avoid shiny clothing, turtlenecks. Don’t wear all black – have some color in your outfit. For inspiration on outfits, take a look at the photos in my portfolio and see what outfits capture your attention!

Ties

Bring a few tie options! This is one of the easiest changes we can make in your session if we need to add variety.

Hair

You’ll want to time any hair cuts, coloring, or styling so that you’ll look your best on the day of the photoshoot. You know your hair best! Keep in mind the date of our photoshoot when scheduling your hair appointments.

Makeup

Your makeup should be light and basic, as if you were going to a nice function. In many cases, less makeup is more classy. Bring your favorite lipstick and some powder if possible.

SHAVING

You should shave on the day of the session. I’ll retouch out any nicks or scratches if they happen to occur that morning. I can’t edit out stubble after the fact, so make sure your facial hair looks just right for the session.

Jewelry

Keep your jewelry simple and classy. We want the focus to be on you! Anything that’s not too loud will work great.

Glasses

If you wear glasses every day, you should wear them in the photo. We can do photos with and without glasses if you like.

Note: if you have adaptive lenses that turn into your regular lenses into sunglasses, please let me know in advance so we can discuss your options. Adaptive lenses cannot be photographed outside.

Boudoir & Model Portfolio Photography Session by ArtChick

"After all these years, I am still involved in the process of self-discovery. It's better to explore life and make mistakes than to play it safe. Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life"

"I was suddenly struck by how visually balanced the home page of our website is at this particular moment in time. Kristine and I are constantly adding new content in a random way, but I have never seen the homepage evolve into such a visual harmony which at the same time gives such a concise and comprehensive sense of all that we do. Random art can be beautiful and interesting. Could this be what the universe is all about...Or is it just our own little world that works this way?"
